Sunlight Winter Sports Club

The Sunlight Ski Team Educational Foundation (SSTEF) is a registered alpine ski club operating under the policies of the United States Ski Association(USSA). Its members are boys and girls ages 6 and up who live in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys. They compete on four separate teams: Buddy Werner (introduction to ski racing), Development Team (transition from Buddy Werner to Ski Team), J5-J4 Age Class, and Ability Class. The team exists to provide an opportunity for young skiers to learn about and participate in a quality winter sports program. These groups cater to an entire range of talent: those who desire to be top caliber racers as well as those wishing to participate and improve their skills. At the upper levels, training is geared toward successful USSA competition with consistent attendance and dedication expected from all participants. We strive to promote alpine racing as a major sport in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys, and to develop young men and women who, with confidence and discipline learned from ski racing, will better represent themselves and their communities. Finally, SSTEF and SWSC provide the youth of our communites the opportunity to achieve the highest possible potential as individuals, athletes, and competitors. We consider the individual first, the athlete second, and competition third. The program unites self-motivation, effort, and commitment. How well our team members progress in the field of winter sports is a function of how thoroughly they grasp these ideals.
